We had a great week in school celebrating books and reading! The children focussed on different reading activities across the week. This week we all went on a of imagination, of challenges and of the unknown.
Children across the school came together to explore a fabulous wordless picture book, Journey by Aaron Becker.
The story tells a tale of a girl who is bored. Bored, bored, bored, bored, bored. With her mom cooking and yakking on the phone, her dad glued to his computer and her older sister consumed by some kind of electronic handheld device, there’s no one to play with.
During the week, the children all took part in the Widdershins rod puppet workshop. The children were given an introduction to the world of puppets where they were able to handle a selection of puppets and learned how to communicate using them. They used simple gestures such as waving, yawning, crying, sneezing etc. During the last part of the workshop, the children had the opportunity to make a simplified version of the Widdershins rod puppets which they were able to take home with them.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and it was lovely to see the children performing with one another using their voices and watching them bring their puppet to life.
It was fantastic to see the amount of effort everyone had made to dress as a book character – clearly, a lot of thought had gone in to costumes.
