Look what we've been learning!

Welcome to Year 6!

Our class book this term is The Explorer by Katherine Rundell. This is a wonderfully descriptive and exciting book set in Brazil, in the Amazon Rainforest. We will be doing lots of writing based on this book, starting with descriptive writing and persuasive letters. We will be talking a lot about recent events concerning global warming and fires in the Amazon Rainforest, so please take the time to discuss these important issues at home. Our geography and history will also be based around Brazil this term.

In Maths, we will be securing our knowledge in our basic skills this half term. We will become secure in place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division over the next six weeks. Please try to find some time to practice these skills at home - mathletics is a fantastic opportunity to improve your maths and have some fun at the same time!

In Science, we are learning about animal classification. This will involve classifying animals into types, identifying the characteristics of different types of animals and learning about microorganisms.
