Class Blog

Week Beginning: 29th October

Welcome back!

We have had a very exciting week. On Thursday, Wren class auditioned for our Christmas play. They were all amazing and we are very excited to start learning the songs.

We have started looking at the Gunpowder Plot. We drew fireworks, discussed Guy Fawkes and danced to Katy Perry's Firework.

 Week Beginning: 15th October

From reading with Mrs Freeman to maths challenges with Miss Cole; this week has been filled with special challenges to enable us to complete our first set of assessments. These feed in to the information given to you during parent's evenings. The children are incredibly skilled at completing these challenges and have worked very hard!

Aside from assessments, we have completed our Queen Elizabeth biographies. Every child in the class wrote, at length, about the Tudor queen and her personal success' and battles.

Week Beginning: 8th October

In 1558, Elizabeth was sitting under an oak tree in the park when she learned of her succession to the throne.

Another exciting week in Wren class. On Tuesday we visited Hatfield Park and met Queen Elizabeth I. She was surprisingly sweet and the children were relieved to find out that it was only an actress and not (as some of them suggested) a 500 year old.

We learned a lot about her childhood, and England during the time of Elizabeth's reign. Thank you to Mrs. Willoughby and Mrs. Brignell, it was great fun having you with us.

In all the Tudor excitement, we were a little unprepared when our harvest rehearsal came round on Wednesday. The children worked very hard to project their voices in the hall and tell the story of The Little Red Hen.

Spellings
Thank you for all your support with spellings. The children were very excited to complete their spelling checks today. A little reminder to say that purple home learning journals will be collected in every Thursday.

Week Beginning: 1st October 2018

Wren class have, once again, had a very busy week. In English, we are looking at biographies and worked hard to read a difficult information text. We have also looked at the past tense and time connectives.

Mrs. Pemberton took the class to the woods on Tuesday. I heard all about their work on seeds and they were very excited about having a story in the woods!

The class have finished their Christmas card design, ready to be sent off next week. Look out for information about this in the newsletter/bookbags!

The children have taken spellings home today. We will collect in their purple books on Thursday.

In maths, we have moved on to our addition and subtraction unit of work. Below you can see an example of a fact family.

This week, our head teacher's certificate was awarded to the whole class for their enthusiasm and hard work.
ELECTION WEEK

Votes are in! Our school councilors have been elected.

Well done to Samuel and Maisie!

Week Beginning: 24th September 2018

I like the spirit of this great London which I feel around me.
                                                                                Charlotte Bronte

This week the children continued work on part two of their UK and London challenge. The Queen is keeping Wren class very busy!

We have researched London landmarks and written fact files. The children particularly liked the gory history of the Tower of London.

Using our knowledge of popular London landmarks, we created cityscapes using paper collage and paint.

 Week Beginning: 17th September 2018

What a busy week! Wren class have been hard at work practicing year two spellings and getting to grips with place value.

On Friday, we all made smoothies for the Puffin class tea party. The children designed their own smoothies and wrote instructions for their friends to follow.

We have an inset day on Monday and Mrs. Pemberton will be teaching the class on Tuesday morning. Have a lovely weekend!

 Week Beginning: 10th September 2018

It has been lovely seeing parents and meeting new parents this week. Thank you for coming to visit our classroom and please feel free to pop in after school.

We received our first assignment from Buckingham Palace on Monday. Our mission is top secret, however, the children have created maps to illustrate the four countries and capital cities of the UK. We had great fun using Google Earth on our new interactive whiteboard.

The Elizabeth Tower is standing tall in our book corner. The children worked hard to find items around the classroom to reuse or recycle.

Week beginning: 3rd September 2018

'The Queen was on her way to visit someone very special...'
The Queen's Hat

We had a very exciting delivery this morning. An official letter turned up with a carefully wrapped parcel.

It was a letter from the Queen!

Unfortunately, we cannot tell you too much about our mission, we are now members of Her Majesty's Secret Service after all. However, I don't think these little historians, geographers and erm... royal guards will be able to keep the secret for too long!

For more information please find our topic outline above.
Welcome Back

The children have been AMAZING this week. We've had two days in our revamped classroom, I have called them Jay class countless times and they have taken to year two expectations with ease.

The Jay class teaching assistants and I would like to thank you all for the lovely gifts we received at the end of the summer term and for all your help with Nature Detectives and trips throughout the year.

On that note...

Wren class will be visiting the woods fortnightly starting from the 18th September. Mrs Pemberton will take the class in the morning. Please send your children in to school in their woodland clothes. They will change in to their school uniform after the session. A sign up form for volunteers is on our class notice board (just inside the door).
