At Meldreth, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all children.

We are committed to giving children over two hours of PE a week as part of their curriculum entitlement and many of our children are active members of sports clubs and activities provided by our school and the wider community.  Competitive sport is valued and children are taught about sportsmanship. Our teaching and delivery of PE across all year groups is supported by a Specialist Primary School PE teacher, Ms Chloe Jackson, for half a day per week.

The school is supported by the South Cambridgeshire Schools Sports Partnership who in turn organise appropriate coaching, high quality teacher CPD and a range of competitions for children of all ages.

Please refer to our Olympic Legacy Funding page for reports on how we allocate and review the impact of Government additional funding.

Early Years

PE in Foundation stage is carried out in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. The children are engaged in physical activity throughout the week in the form of gross motor skill development through riding bikes, climbing, balancing, crawling etc. They are also continually developing manipulative and fine motor skills through a wide range of activities such as threading, painting, building and cutting. The children are given the opportunity to undertake activities that offer appropriate challenge, both indoors and outdoors, using a wide range of resources.
