This week's round up - 22nd October

The last week of this half term has come round very quick and we've had so much fun! We've been enjoying lots Halloween craft and activities as we have been making spiders, pumpkins, ghosts and witches/wizards hats. The children have explored messy gloop in the tuff tray as well as a witches kitchen with lots of things to make potions! We used spaghetti to make worms for the mud kitchen and did lots of mixing with the sand and water. The children loved the opportunity to dress up this week and decorate biscuits too. Our Zumbathon was a great success and the children really enjoyed it! Thank you so much for all who donated. We also collected food items for the Harvest Festival which we will be donation to the local food back next week. Thank you again for the contributions.

After half term, we have planned to introduce the children to Fireworks and Bonfire night. We will be focusing our learning on colours and sounds. We will be making firework patterns at the mark making table using different objects, making rockets with junk modelling, exploring colours in gloop, learning a new fireworks song and making a bonfire night tray. We have added a STEM section to our planning board which will focus on engaging children in Science, Technology, Engineering and Technology. An example for the first week is an experiment to make fireworks in a glass of water! We also have added a focus activity each day to develop the children's Speech, Language and Communication with activities to promote listening, attention and speaking.

We are welcoming new children to Preschool next term and spaces are beginning to fill up. If you think you would like to increase your child's sessions in January, please let us know as soon as possible so we can accommodate your needs as best we can.

As we approach the winter months, we must remain vigilant of not only COVID symptoms but also winter illnesses. If your child is generally unwell, please keep them at home until they are well enough to fully engage in their time at preschool. As COVID symptoms are also on the rise. Please ensure your child gets a PCR test if they have a new or continuous cough, a fever or a change/loss of taste or smell. We are being very vigilant at Preschool due to the rise in cases locally and will be in contact if your child shows these symptoms at Preschool.
