This week's round up - 23rd April

What a week we have had in the beautiful sunshine! This week, the preschool children have been learning all about Knights, dragons and castles as we celebrated St. George’s Day. We have made our own shields, designed dragon eggs, created dragons from tubes, built castles and made our den into a castle too! We’ve had lots of fun dressing up and doing lots of action and dancing games, as well as some calming yoga. We have also starting some gardening by planting some runner beans, sunflowers and flower seeds.

The younger children have been developing their gross and fine motor skills by engaging in movement activities and practicing threading with pasta. They have also been sharing lots of stories and songs, developing those vital communication and language skills.

The older group have been working on their pencil control as we designed castles and followed different patterns. We also went on an egg and dragon hunt and spent time on the big field, climbing and balancing on the big equipment and checking on our fruit tree.

We have decided to split our children into two groups at preschool but have yet to decide names for each group but as soon as we have decided we will let you know. By creating two groups within preschool we are able to better focus on the children’s needs in the last term of the year as the younger children become accustomed to larger group sizes and new friends joining us, while the older children prepare for their next adventure to big school! The younger group will be with Katie and Sally while the older group will be with Lianne and Jolene. We use our time in the day to have opportunities to all play together and to have time in our groups.

Next week we will be very busy learning all about summer fruits and vegetables. Today all the children helped to set up an outdoor café and indoors we have created a market stall, ready to sell all those delicious fruits and vegetables! Some of our other activities next week include fruit and vegetable painting, making fruit kebabs and learning a new fruit song.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend and stay safe in the sun.
