Grafham Water Residential Information

8th November 2019

Grafham Water is an outdoor learning residential venue run by Cambridgeshire County Council.  Based on the shore of the UK’s finest inland sailing venue, the Centre offers an exciting but safe environment to learn in, highlighted by the stunning natural backdrop of the 80 hectare Grafham Water Nature Reserve. The area is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) which the children love to explore!

Why go to Grafham?

Here are some of the things we hope your child will get out of the trip:
  • organising themselves and their belongings
  • team work and respect for others
  • helping and encouraging others
  • experiencing outdoor and adventurous activities
  • overcoming problems/fears and showing determination
  • building confidence

Who will my child share a room with?

The children will been asked to select 6 other people they would be happy to share a room with.
  • As much as possible we will aim to have the children in rooms in their friendship groups. But as a minimum, they will be in a room with at least one of the people they have selected.
  • The rooms vary in size, from rooms that sleep 3 up to rooms that sleep 8 people

What activities will the children be taking part in?
Previous groups have taken part in:
  • kayaking
  • sailing
  • canoeing
  • bushcraft
  • low ropes
  • jacob's ladder high ropes
  • the Grafham blindfold challenge
  • raft building
  • archery
What will the children eat while they are away?

Children have hearty, healthy meals throughout the day and are taught to set the table and have quiet discussions about their activities.  The centre is fully aware that some children may have intolerances and/or allergies and are fully equipped for these dietary requirements.  The evening entertainment revolves around having team-building games or a cinema night with hot chocolate whilst wearing our pyjamas!
