On Thursday 8th June, 21 budding athletes from Year's 5 and 6 went to Wilberforce Road in Cambridge to compete in the South Cambs SSP's Small Schools Quadkids athletics championships. 19 teams took part with all girls and boys involved competing in 4 disciplines - Vortex Howler Throw, Long Jump, 600m run and 75m sprint. Children earned points depending on their performance in each event which went towards their final team score.
We witnessed some really gritty performances from many of the Meldreth athletes (particularly in the 600m) along with some moments of excellent sportsmanship, encouragement and kindness shown towards other children taking part. This was such an enjoyable event and all of our children worked so hard and made us feel incredibly proud. As the results were announced the children got deservedly very excited.
Our B team earned a very respectable 14th place and the A team were just pipped in to second place, 80 points behind the overall winners Harston and Newton. In addition to our success in the team event, Ben H and Maisie H received awards for their individual performances coming in the top three for the boys and girls respectively.
We would like to say a huge thank you to all the parents and family members who came to support us. It was lovely to have you all cheering the children on. We would like to give a big well done and congratulations to the following children who represented us so magnificently:
