Parent Page (Kestrel)

Welcome to the Kestrel class page!

First of all, a HUGE welcome back to everyone - it has been a long wait but finally we are all able to get back to school - HOORAY! Here is just a little basic information about our class and what you might need to know to get started!

Mr Jones is the main teacher in Kestrel Class, supported by Mrs Taylor, as our class Teaching Assistant. Mrs Millington also delivers a 'remote'  Spanish lesson once a week.  Together we do everything we can to ensure that learning in Kestrel Class is always lively, interesting and good fun!

LOVE READING!
See if you can persuade someone to read to you every night at bedtime, too. (It's like a magic trick that sets your imagination on fire!) For the time being you will have one reading book for school and one reading book for home!

PE will be on Wednesdays and Thursdays so please wear your PE kit to school on those days!

Don't forget to be ready for weekly  spelling assessment on Monday and please keep practising your tables for a test every fortnight.
Click the links below for this term's curriculum outline.
These Maths 'Prompt' sheets describe everything that your child will learn in maths in Year 5. I've also included the Y4 one for comparison purposes!
Health and Attendance

Regular attendance at school is vital for your child’s education.

If your child is absent from school for any reason school needs to know. Please telephone the school by 9.15 a.m. on the first day of absence.

We need to know the reason (as schools are required to distinguish between authorised and unauthorised absence of pupils) and how long your child is likely to be off. Please ask your Doctor for advice regarding how long your child should be kept off school.

If medicine is prescribed, arrangements can only be made for the administration in school if the dosage is x4 daily. Parents are asked to complete a request form and all medicines must be handed to Mrs Robinson, in the original packaging, clearly labelled with date, contents, pupil’s name and dosage.

Our Family Support Worker in conjunction with our Education Welfare Officer is always available to give advice if required.

Homework & PE Days

English:All children should read for at least 15 minutes daily. Please talk to your child about what they have read and sign the reading record.

Maths: Children need to be learning their times tables throughout the year.

Here is a helpful reminder for the week:

Monday: Spellings assessed; new spellings given (posted on Google Classroom)

Friday:

Your child will need to come to school in PE kit on Wednesdays and Thursdays, including blue/black shorts, white t-shirt and trainers and for safety reasons please remember that long hair needs to be tied back and earrings should not be worn. All our PE sessions this term will have to be conducted outside so when it is cold/damp appropriate jogging bottoms and fleece/top will be needed. Please ensure all these items are named.
