Our School Day

Attendance Matters

Regular school attendance is essential for your child’s learning, confidence, and wellbeing.

  • Avoid keeping your child off school for minor reasons.
  • Arrange dental appointments during school holidays or after school where possible. If unavoidable, ensure your child attends before and after the appointment.
  • Book medical appointments outside school hours whenever possible.
  • Plan family holidays during the 13 weeks of school holidays, as term-time holidays cannot be authorised.
  • Always contact the school to explain any absence.
  • Ensure your child gets enough sleep and goes to bed on time.
  • If your child is running late, still send them to school — it’s better to arrive late than miss the whole day.
Every Day Counts — Your Child’s Future Starts with Good Attendance
Why Attendance and Punctuality Matter

Poor attendance and lateness can:

  • Disrupt your child’s learning
  • Make them feel less confident and more reluctant to attend school
  • Cause them to miss important lessons and routines
  • Set poor habits for later life
  • Lead to further action if issues persist

Lost learning adds up quickly:

  • 10 minutes late once a week = 6 hours lost per year
  • 5 minutes late every day = nearly 4 days lost per year
  • Missing 20 minutes each week = 11+ hours lost (almost 3 days a year)
Starting the School Day

Punctuality is key to a positive start.

  • Children should be on the playground ready for the doors to open at 8:40am
  • All pupils take part in reading or maths activities from 8:40–8:50am
  • Missing these sessions can make it harder for your child to keep up
  • “Be in the line at twenty to nine.”

Late Arrivals
  • Children arriving after 8:50am must be signed in at the school office (Inventry system)
  • Arrivals after this time are recorded as an unauthorised absence
End of the School Day
  • All children must be collected promptly
  • Younger children stay with their teacher until collected by a known parent or carer
  • Inform the school in advance if someone different is collecting your child
  • If you are delayed, contact the School Office so your child can be safely supervised
