How we support your child's development

At our setting, we believe that strong relationships and a nurturing environment are the foundation for every child’s success. Here’s how we support children and families from the very beginning:

Settling In and Building Relationships Children are welcomed with personalised touches and supported through a Key Person system that fosters strong relationships with families. Settling-in sessions are tailored, with Play and Stay opportunities and regular updates via Tapestry.

Supporting Communication and Language Language development is supported through play, storytelling, and daily Rhyme Time. Practitioners model clear speech, introduce new vocabulary, use Makaton, and encourage self-expression during dedicated talking sessions.

Flexible, Interest-Led Planning Planning is guided by children's interests, offering both child-initiated and adult-led activities. The environment and resources are adapted to meet individual needs, with continuous provision and termly topics to inspire learning.

Developing Independence and Responsibility Children are supported to become independent and responsible through routines and roles like tidy-up time and being a special helper. Next Steps planning ensures activities are appropriately challenging and support ongoing development.

Assessment and Monitoring
  • We carry out termly assessments across all seven areas of learning.
  • An ‘All About Me’ form is completed at the start, forming the foundation for your child’s learning journey.
  • A baseline assessment is carried out approximately two weeks after your child starts with us.
  • The Two-Year-Old Progress Check is a valuable opportunity to reflect on your child’s development, celebrate their strengths, and plan any further support together with parents/carers.
How We Assess and Support Progress
  • We use ongoing observation, planning, and communication to ensure each child is thriving.
Observation and Planning
  • Regular bi-weekly planning meetings help ensure that our activities reflect children’s learning needs and interests.
  • Practitioners have daily discussions about routines, activities, and how to adapt our approach if needed.
  • We encourage families to complete a ‘Home Interests’ form each term, helping us build a fuller picture of your child’s development.
Individualised Support
  • Your child’s Key Person is responsible for planning and reviewing their next steps, shared regularly with you via Tapestry.
  • We hold team meetings half-termly to discuss children’s progress and identify any areas where additional support may be needed.
