How we Support your Child's Development

At our setting, we believe strong relationships and a nurturing environment are the foundation for every child’s success. Here’s how we support children and families from the start:

Settling In and Building Relationships
Children are welcomed with personalised support through our Key Person system. Settling-in sessions are flexible, with Play and Stay opportunities and regular updates via Tapestry.

Supporting Communication and Language
We promote language development through play, storytelling, and daily Rhyme Time. Practitioners model clear speech, introduce new vocabulary, use Makaton, and encourage children to express themselves.

Flexible, Interest-Led Planning
Activities are guided by children’s interests, combining child-initiated and adult-led experiences. Our environment is adapted to meet individual needs, supported by continuous provision and termly topics.

Developing Independence and Responsibility
Children are encouraged to build independence through daily routines and roles, such as tidying up and being a special helper. Next steps planning ensures appropriate challenge and ongoing development.

Assessment and Monitoring
  • We carry out termly assessments across all seven areas of learning.
  • An ‘All About Me’ form is completed at the start, forming the foundation for your child’s learning journey.
  • A baseline assessment is carried out approximately two weeks after your child starts with us.
  • The Two-Year-Old Progress Check is a valuable opportunity to reflect on your child’s development, celebrate their strengths, and plan any further support together with parents/carers.

How We Assess and Support Progress

We use ongoing observation, planning, and communication to ensure each child is thriving.

Observation and Planning
  • Regular bi-weekly planning meetings help ensure that our activities reflect children’s learning needs and interests.
  • Practitioners have daily discussions about routines, activities, and how to adapt our approach if needed.
  • We encourage families to complete a ‘Home Interests’ form each term, helping us build a fuller picture of your child’s development.

Individualised Support

Your child’s Key Person plans and reviews their next steps, sharing updates with you regularly through Tapestry.

We also hold half-termly team meetings to review each child’s progress and identify where additional support may be needed.
