Infection - Parent Guidance

As we head into the colder months, it’s normal to see an increase in common airborne viruses. While some illness-related absences are unavoidable, many can be prevented with simple, proactive steps to reduce the spread of infection.

The NHS provides clear guidance on when children are well enough to attend school. Most mild illnesses — such as a runny nose, sore throat, or slight cough — do not require time off, unless your child has a high temperature or is feeling too unwell to participate in normal activities.

At Meldreth, we follow the Health and Safety Executive (HSC) guidance on infection control in schools to help us make informed decisions.

Scientific evidence shows that the following measures are effective in reducing the spread of infections:

  • Vaccination

  • Regular handwashing

  • Good ventilation

  • Routine cleaning and disinfection

By working together and following this guidance, we can help keep our pupils healthy, happy, and in school — where the best learning happens.
